Seem to be getting on the same page wrt:

  • Users can perform extremely lightweight mail Processing by stamping email with a Task stamp or a Calendar stamp
  • This creates a small section in the detail view of the email devoted to Task/Calendar attributes
  • Users can also create a set of "strongly linked" items (also known as the Default collection in the sketches below) that the user can easily access in the detail view.
  • All other collections live in a more obscure place in the detail view.

Still open:

  • Do we navigate member items of collections from inside the detail view? (4-pane approach) OR
  • Do we navigate member items of collections from the summary view? (3-pane approach)

  • A Mail + Calendar + Task item group resulting from stamping shares 1 set of attributes??
    • ie. Statii, priority, do on (start time), alarm, recurring, notes, projects
  • A Mail + Calendar + Task item group resulting from stamping belongs to 1 set of collections??

Stamping workflow

  • 01_stamping.gif:
    01_stamping.gif
  • User stamps an item (ie. right-click context menu item, toolbar button, click in the "status column" of the item)

  • 02_stampeddetail.gif:
    02_stampeddetail.gif
  • Chandler maps attributes from the email to the new task item. The original email header is preserved.

2 approaches: 4-pane and 3-pane

4-pane approach

  • 07_4pane_navigatingcoll.gif:
    07_4pane_navigatingcoll.gif
  • Detail view displays item selected in Summary view
  • User opens a collection in the detail view
  • The currently displayed item is present in the list of collection members
  • User selects another member of the collection
    • Detail view now displays item selected in Detail view
  • The detail view switches to the new item

3-pane approach

  • 03_3pane_defaultcollection.gif:
    03_3pane_defaultcollection.gif
  • Default (strongly linked) collection opens in Summary view (grouped)
    • Two ways to open Default collection: Default button in Status bar of Detail view OR Disclosure triangle on selected item
  • To switch collections in the Summary view, user can select a different collection in the Detail view

  • 04_3pane_navigatingDcoll.gif:
    04_3pane_navigatingDcoll.gif

  • 05_3pane_navigatingDcoll.gif:
    05_3pane_navigatingDcoll.gif
  • User navigates items in Default collection in the Summary view
  • There should always be some visual indicator of the original "selected" item (orange).
