Proposed Agenda Items
Stuff needed from Jack
- arrange room, date, and time for May meeting May 6, 10-12:30, Tack Room
- is general CSG session presentation needed? short presentation is scheduled the same day, Thurs. May 6, 3:20PM
- Other short topics may come in at that slot also so OSAF needs to notify Jack about how much time we will need.
- status regarding the "funding from other universities" - proposed plan of action (task from Jan. meeting)
- Jack has not made any progress on this item to date. We will defer discussion of this until the Fall meeting. We will need to discuss it again and form a better action plan. Jack suggests that perhaps the model the Sakai project (also funded from Mellon) is a good model. This is a second tier ($10K per year) called the Educational Partners Program. Seems like a reasonable approach. I believe several CSG members are participating in Sakai at that level (UC Berkeley is for sure) http://www.sakaiproject.org/
- status for Educause registration for Fall panel (task from Jan. meeting)
- Jack submitted a session proposal and received word that the committees are still evaluating such proposals and that we should hear in another month or so.

Summary of the
Sakai Project funding model (Suggested by Jack as a potential model for non-CSG institutions who wish to contribute to Westwood.)
- The Sakai Educational Partners Program is suited to those institutions who want to use and ensure the viability of open source application software for higher education, specifically, in the area of course management systems. A three year commitment to the program at $10,000 per year is an institution's indication of becoming a partner in Sakai's vision. Membership fees for institutions with fewer than 3,000 Fall student enrollment will be allowed to join for $5,000 per year for three years. Partners receive a number of benefits including access to the Sakai Knowledgebase, training, and access to pre-release software (see SEPP Benefits section). Commitment to join the SEPP is more of a moral commitment to other partners than a legal contract, thus, an "exit strategy" is up to the individual institution.
Encouraging community involvement from CSG institutions
- OSAF wants a limited number of folks involved until 0.4. Folks should have the time required to get up the Chandler development learning curve.
- Time commitment will vary depending on the project but estimated level of effort might be
- 1 day/week to get up to speed (OSAF may offer some training sessions in SF and Washington state)
- 1-2 days/week ongoing effort on a project
- Areas of involvement include: Proposed 0.4 community involvement goals by OSAF Working Groups
