Management Committee April 6 2004

I. Hiring discussion.

II. 0.4 Planning Discussion. Each working group gave a brief summary of its goals and status

  • A. Design Team: deliver design docs and specs for what we'll have in 0.4. these are listed in the "UI Landscape" of the ZeroPointFourPlanning? document (http://wiki.osafoundation.org/twiki/bin/view/Chandler/ZeroPointFourPlanning for details. The design team is also assembling the types of workflow that an end user should be able to do with the 0.4 release, such as creation, organizing, communicating and sharing items.

We'll have to look and see if the initial scope for 0.4, which may be too large still. Need some criteria for determining what gets cut.

Design team also hopes to get some Meta-design work accomplishes, such as the next rev of a document template and a framework for talking about use cases and workflows.

Mitch: 0.4 is where about half of the UI should appear.

Chao will also make a list of design items that we know won't make it into 0.4 but is important for the 0.5 list.

  • B. Apps Group

AeroPointFourappsPlanning? at: http://wiki.osafoundation.org/twiki/bin/view/Chandler/ZeroPointFourAppsPlanning

Katie feels pretty comfortable with the list of tasks; the apps group is working on the ownership assignments and the milestones for these. Some topics are large and need to be broken up. The apps group will spend some time with the Design Group to help scope out the taks and the engineering interactions. Katie proposes quick iterations in translating between design docs and engineering rather than trying to solve everything beforehand.

Some design docs for CPIA are critical and are part of the goals. The initial goal is to have a document that people really involved in the project can make use of CPIA well. We'll iterate later to make this a more introductory document for people not so immersed in Chandler, but that's not the initial goal.

The wxWidgets table has seen a lot of work and is in pretty good shape.

  • C. Services piece

Same URL: http://wiki.osafoundation.org/twiki/bin/view/Chandler/ZeroPointFourAppsPlanning

Lisa and Brian are mostly researching, Stuart is implementing and Morgen is doing both. Lisa in the design phase right now, not as far along in detail and scoping. Brian is working on design for email. The schedule manager has been split from the agent framework, and Stuart is working on this. If anyone knows of Python libraries that do schedule managing, please let us know.

Goal is to have most infrastructure features by the end of 0.4. One advantage is that if the repository is ahead of the curve, then it will have had time to settle by the time the apps group needs it. The disadvantage is that it's an ambitious task for 0.4. Certificates. Heikki needs to get basic stuff for certificates and SSL done for 0.3.16 release.

  • E. Build and Release

Tasks listed at: http://wiki.osafoundation.org/twiki/bin/view/Chandler/WebHome?topic=BuildProject. Seem to be on - track for now. Currently the installers are on the 0.5 list, though people would love to see them earlier.

  • F. Community Group

Plan at: http://wiki.osafoundation.org/twiki/bin/view/Chandler/CommunityGoalsZeroPointFour. Discussion of usefulness of having community group goals included as part of the goals of each working group; we'll probably go this way.
