Scooby Release for Target User

Scooby release for target user is when all the basic calendar features are available for the users to start using Scooby in a very specific way. There may be a few specific Usage Scenarios. For example, a Chandler User who may want to be able to view their calendar data on the web, Scooby. The target user release date for Scooby is currently TBD. There is no dot number or date pinned to this release.

  • Data Availability: "The data you have in the (Chandler) calendar application area is the data you should see in Scooby." SheilaMooney - We should describe exactly what this means. The calendar data I have in Chandler might be from published as well as subscribed to shares. If we want a user to be able to see their "shared" data world, this has dependencies on both Cosmo and Chandler work that we need to outline in more detail.

Target User

  • Chandler calendar user viewing their events in a calendar in Scooby.

Usage scenario

  • Be able to view my Chandler calendars when I'm not at my computer, primarily so I can see what I need to do next
  • See if there are any "public" events that might be fun to go to (ie. Is there an Office movie night tonight? What's the movie?)
  • Find event information on your calendar to give to someone else (ie. There's this lecture next week you should really attend, what was it about...)
  • Not usable for actually scheduling events in the future. But you can certainly view your calendar and tell someone when you're available

We could do this is we had UI to subscribe to a calendar in Scooby:

  • Provide a way for a non-Chandler users to share calendars with you, without having to download and use Chandler (ie. A spouse who mostly gets scheduled, OSAF developers when they need to check the office calendar for meeting times or conference bridge availability.)

Open Issues

  • Can we de-couple sharing with what I can see in Scooby: It doesn't make sense to have to share calendars in order to view them on your personal account in Scooby on the Web? The appropriate mental model is syncing my calendar(s) to my personal Scooby account, which includes both calendars you've created AND calendars you've subscribed to. This would mean that Chandler needs to share "subscription ticket" information with Cosmo.

Features

Feature selection is extracted from Phase 1 of the one-year Scooby plan. When Phase 1 is complete, Scooby should be a useable release for target users.

  • Editing
  • Basic event creation (in-place creation and editing on actual events as well as in event detail)
    • simple events with start and end time
    • all-day events - no stacking (The events just stack on top of one another so you can't see if you have more than 1 event on a certain day.)
    • multi-day events
  • Dragging events and resizing them in the calendar
  • Remove events (We're not trying to support usable editing. The target user's release is mainly for viewing only.)

  • Display - no editing
  • @ time events. You can create these events in the detail view by setting start time = end time. Display lozenge as in Chandler or will distiguish from regular events.
  • Anytime events display as all day events
  • Recurring events will be displayed correctly
  • Timezones will display correctly in the detail view, but user cannot change the timezone Open issue. MimiYin This release is only usable for read-only scenarios. We're mostly focused on display issues.
  • Overlapping events will stagger

  • Navigation
  • Week view and navigating back and forth between weeks
  • All day area
  • Event detail view
  • Jump to date field

  • Managing calendars
  • Published calendars and Subscriptions as well
  • View a single calendar at a time
  • Pull-down to switch calendars
  • When you run Scooby there is a default calendar created on your behalf. You cannot create new addtional calendars in Scooby. View multiple calendars created using Chandler but only one at a time.
  • Events created in Scooby can exist on only one calendar Open issue. MimiYin We're only concerned with read scenarios. Write scenarios don't need to work.
    • this one is confusing because I can have 2 chandler calendar that has the same event on more than one calendar
    • assume there will be no affordance to indicate this (what calendar is on)
    • what happens when I modify this event in scooby (on one of the calendars)

  • Login, Logout, Manage account
    • Managing accounts will be done through Cosmo UI

  • Timezones
  • All events are translated into local time and original timezone information is preserved (ie: if system TZ=PST, if my event is 10:00am EST, it displays as 7:00am PST)Open issue.
    • Events created in Scooby are in floating time.

  • Talking to Cosmo -> CALDAV support
    • view calendars published on cosmo

Meeting Notes:

Brainstorm for long-term planning

  • Target audience is potentialy CSG University admin, staff or students. Possibly a small college or group such as student union using calendars to publish class schedules, sport activites, etc.
  • High level executives in the Universities may not be a target user. May need to research more on this user group and how they would view information on school activites.
  • Need to be aware of syncing on mobile devices, although it may addressed at a later release.

  • Kiosk usage at universities (specific use case) -->Where is my class?
  • "Web access" public calendar published by university staff. --> When is the football game this weekend?

  • Environment
  • Need to interview small colleges
  • Environments that run:
    • Exchange
    • Oracle
    • Mixture of other organizational tools
