Product Design Intern
For the summer of 2007, the Open Source Applications Foundation (OSAF) is seeking a Product Design Intern for its Chandler/Cosmo team. OSAF is building free desktop and web-based PIM (personal information management) software focused on sharing and collaboration.
Projects may include visual design treatments, icon designs, running usability tests, spec writing, or prototyping an experimental user interface, depending on the skills and interest of the intern.

Requirements for software/web visual designers:
- Familiarity with principles of composition, typography and color theory
- Familiarity with design software tools, i.e. Adobe Creative Suite
- Basic illustration skills
- Knowledge of icon design and 3D modeling experience a plus
Requirements for usability testers or ui designers:
- Interviewing skills
- Familiarity with usability best practices: defining target users, usage scenarios and workflow analysis
- Good verbal and written communication skills
Requirements for prototypers:
- Familiarity with prototyping tools (Adobe Creative Suite) OR GUI programming skills OR CSS/HTML/Javascript skills
- Good problem solving skills
- Good communication skills
Requirements for spec writers:
- Students enrolled in a 4 year program
- Excellent writing skills
- Detail oriented
- Familiarity with basic HTML a plus
General Requirements:
- Students enrolled in a 4 year or masters program (in an appropriate field)
- Legal right to work in the US
- 3 months minimum
- Available to work on-site in SF office for majority of time
- Experience participating in open source projects is a plus.
