Based on some of the
bare minimum designs for Preview, Mimi and I sat down and worked out some of the details about the 'subscription teaser'. The following mockups highlight the following:
- Moving the title of the calendar collection and 'add collection' into the user's Cosmo account into one area.
- Using tool tip to help with understanding the '+' icon means add this collection into your Cosmo account.
- Cleaning up the multiple icons in the top right area and using a drop down menu for subscriptions. And if possible for development in 0.6 to download an .ics file.
Please note: I’m still wordsmithing the drop down menu items. I think I'm going to change the default of 'Add to Chandler' to 'Subscribe with…'. So it will look like:
- Subscribe with… |V|
- Add to Chandler
- Add to iCal
- RSS Feed
- Export data to desktop
- 1. Not logged into Cosmo:
- 2 Mouseover the drop down box appears:
- 3. Mousedown a drop down appears:
- 4. Mousedown and select application to subscribe or download.:
Adding the collection into your Cosmo account.
- 1. Cursor moves over to '+' (Add) Cosmo to your account:
- 2. Tool tip appears to inform users about adding collection to Cosmo account.:
- 3. Log into Cosmo dialog appears log into Cosmo and collection will be added automatically and default to the new collection.:
Earlier proposals back in November
So here is an alternate proposal I'd like to suggest:
1. Opposed to having login checkboxes, use separate subdomains for capabilites. This is the model followed by a number of web apps, for example calendar.google.com, mail.yahoo.com. A user may login to any google of google's 'properties' such as gcal or gmail, enter the subdomian url of another property and preserve their login status.
For an OSAF example, it might be:
- remotedisk.osaf.us/cosmo --> file sharing UI (currently part of automation, but really should be its own application)
- osaf.us/cosmo -->the web ui for calendar and collections, as supported by cosmo.
- admin.osaf.us/cosmo --> the current administration interface.
2. In addition to the subdomains, I propose we also keep the advance link within the settings dialog to allow users to administer their own collection. This 'advance' link will open the admin interface in a separate browser window thus providing a direct connection between the calendar UI and home collection.

- Alternate, alternate proposal with separate links off to the side in the upper right hand corner provides easy access to admin and home directory browsing UIs without having to go through the Casual Collaborator, end-user PIM UI.
- This does not preclude providing access within the CC UI to get to the home directory (via Settings as Priscilla proposed)
- Nor does it preclude allowing home directory browsers and admins easy access to the CC UI from the admin/home directory browsing UIs.

The following workflows are to clarify the updated storyboards Mimi had done for the unified (magic) URL:
http://wiki.osafoundation.org/bin/view/Journal/CosmoMagicURLStoryboardsTake2
These workflows are to help address the following questions:
- When can users login, when can't they log in?
- When does Cosmo UI automatically log users in?
- How do 'logged-in users' subscribe to collections with Chandler, iCal and as Feeds?
- How do users navigate to the Casual Collaborator/end-user Cosmo UI versus the home directory browser
Due to time constraints, PPD is proposing the possibility of de-prioritizing 'subscription organization' affordances for the Casual Collaborator/end-user Cosmo UI (at least for the initial Preview release). See notes indicated below:
- General login workflow:
- Login subscription workflow:
- In this workflow, once a user is logged into Cosmo, the links which are currently available in Cosmo 0.5 'Home Collection' and 'Account' are replaced by 'Settings'. In settings, the user would be able to set the time-zone preferences and change their password settings.
- The 'home collection' and 'account' link is only available if you are logging in as an Administrator. May need to clarify.
- Note This is a nice to have if time permits. The Casual Collaborator workflow we'd like to focus on is being able to share and edit a collection with a Chandler user. Creating preferences to allow managing of collections in the Cosmo UI will not be as high priority.
