Apps meeting Tuesday August 23rd 2005

Agenda

Summary

  • Plan : Merge branch in trunk. Finish all m5 tasks.
  • Progress : Progress on all m5 tasks. Branch is now only a couple of bugs away of being merged.
  • Problems : m5 delayed as long as we don't have the branch and trunk merged. Performance went really down with recent addition. Need to nail why before 0.6 out.

Actions

  • Philippe to monitor m5 and load balance m6
  • Merge to trunk ASAP

Specs

CSG Recalibration Meeting update (Sheila) :

  • Meeting went fairly well. Overall positive, demo very well received. Need to identify short term vs long term goals.
  • More info: see Pieter's notes (not yet available).

Schedule

Status of the set (ItemCollection) branch. Update from John :

  • We have bugs on most acceptance tests. Need to work on that.
  • Notification bug : Ted and Andi worked on it today.
  • Have quite serious perf issues now.
  • Logging bugs with [SetBranch] in Whiteboard status field. Currently 7 bugs logged in that category.
  • Need few more days of bug fixing before merging.

We discussed the cost / benefit of having the branch. Should we do a merge immediately?

  • Need to identify the really merge blocking bugs : only a couple of lingering bugs blocking the merge (3810 and 3813)
  • No one blocked now in the trunk but no one would be blocked either if the branch was to be merged now
  • Bryan feeling that having everything merged in the branch would allow everyone to contribute toward fixing critical m5 blockers more efficiently. General agreement on that.
  • Conclusion : Engineering meeting at 4pm today to decide when to merge the branch. Consensus in the Apps team is that merging early will be better and won't be blocking now. John thinking that fixing first the most glaring notification and perf issues in the branch then merge would be more efficient.

    Individual status :

    • John : see above... Trying to land the branch in the trunk asap.
    • Bryan : almost done with all m5 and m6 list. Started poaching in John's list.
    • Alec : in vacation this week.
    • David : 3721 and 3827 not wx bug (Bryan to check them out), working on the Windows toolbar bug.
    • Jed : had to disable busy bar because of perf on the trunk. Working on remaining m5 bugs.
    • Donn : no critical bugs left in m5.
    • Brendan : some bugs to address for m5.

Philippe to revisit m5/m6 balancing for each ASAP.
