Chandler Hub Faq

Q: What is Chandler Server/Hub (Cosmo) and why is OSAF doing this project?

  • A: Chandler Server (Cosmo) is a calendar server and a file server. It is part of the Chandler ecosystem. Learn more information on Chandler Project Home?
    • Chandler Desktop is a desktop PIM (personal information manager) client
    • Chandler Server (Cosmo) is a content/calendar sharing server to support collaboration with Chandler users. Chandler users will be able to share calendar collections with friends who do not use Chandler, iCal or any other desktop clients by providing them with Cosmo URLs for the collections.
    • Chandler Hub is the hosted service which is built on the Chandler Server and Hosted Service projects.

Q: How do I get Chandler Server (Cosmo)?

Q: Can I see how Chandler Server work without downloading and installing the OSAF Server bundle?

Q: How do I find information after I have downloaded the OSAF bundle?

Q: Is Chandler Server (Cosmo) open source, and what is the license?

Q: How secure is my information on Chandler Server (Cosmo)?

  • A: Technically you choose how secure you want your information to be – you can use it like a traditional calendar instead of a collaborative calendar. But if you use a Chandler Hub (Cosmo) account as a collaborative account, then every collaborator has equal access to things. Chandler Server (Cosmo) does not currently encrypt calendar data. Please see tickets for a full explanation of how Chandler Server (Cosmo) works with small group collaborations.

Q: I'm a developer and would like to be more involved with the Chandler Server (Cosmo) project?

Q: How do I report a bug in Chandler Server/Hub (Cosmo)?

  • A See the wiki page on Reporting Cosmo Bugs on what to do and what to include in your report. Feel free to sign up on bugzilla and file a bug yourself! The best part is that when you sign up for an account and file a bug, you'll be cc:ed on the bug so you can track it and know when your favorite feature will be fixed! And by the way - thanks, those bug reports really help us!!! wink

Q: I'm trying to run this on my mobile device, what browsers do Chandler Server/Hub (Cosmo) 0.6 support?

  • A Currently Cosmo 0.6 has not be tested with any mobile devices. Though we have been told Mozilla's Minimo 2.0 now supports Ajax. If you are running Minimo 0.2 for Windows Mobile 5.0 and above—set to desktop view, you might be able to scroll around and enter items on to the calendar. Please note this is currently not tested by QA at OSAF.

If you have feedback on what your are seeing on your mobile device please send them along to us and either file a bug or we'll file one for you to track them. Hopefully in the near future we will specify some mobile devices which we'll be able to test against. In the meantime, here is a list of browser support by priority:

  1. Windows Firefox 2.0 & 1.5 (though 1.5 may slowly be moved down the list of priority)
  2. Windows IE7
  3. Windows IE6
  4. Apple Firefox 2.0 & 1.5
  5. Safari 2.0
  6. Linux Firefox (note: Matthew is currently developing in this so the app will work fine in Linux)
  7. Windows/Mac Firefox 1.0 (slowly move on the not support list)

The current target screen size - 1024x768 pixels, though the application should still be usable at 800x600 pixels (it just might look a bit squished).

Q: Will Chandler Hub run harmoniously with with Window's Vista or Apple's Leopard?

Currently Windows Vista OS and Apple's Leopard OS has not been tested with 0.6. If you have feedback on what your are seeing on your operating system (Vista or Leopard) please send them along to us and either file a bug or we'll file one for you!!

Q: I'm an advanced user, where did the 'Home Collection' link go?

  • A For those advanced users who were downloading the OSAF bundle and were using the 'Home Collection' regularly, in this release, we've renamed the section to 'Account Browser'. The link is still available by selecting 'Settings', select the 'Advanced' tab in the 'Settings' dialog and check the check box ' Show Account Browser link'. Once you 'Save' the 'Settings' dialog you'll notice the 'Account Browser' link appear in the top right area of the web application, next to the 'Settings' and 'Help' link. Please note we intentionally wanted to hide advanced areas for novice users since collections and items in the collections can be deleted directly from the Account Browser and cannot be recovered.

Q There's a problem with the URL syntax for iCal 2.x.

Chandler Server provides the URL in the format: https://osaf.us:443/foo which iCal will not accept due to the https as previously reported; the format of the URL needs to be: http://osaf.us/foo (with out the 's').

This is as of iCal 2.0.5. It seems to work fine with the latter URL format, after editing by hand.

  • A We decided to punt on this issue, since there is a simple workaround (removing the s manually from the url), and we didn't want to put product/version specific code into Chandler Server. The iCal team is aware of the bug and fixed it on the spot when we reported to them. Presumably the fix will make it into Leopard if not an earlier security update. This has been filed as Bug#8603
